CLOCS is the standard for Construction Logistics and Community Safety – managing work-related road risks. This new Standard is implemented through contracts and provides a framework to help manage safety on construction sites in an efficient, consistent way by fleet operators. The main goal of CLOCS is to provide a guideline for all involved, including contractors, drivers and cyclists on their responsibility of making sure accidents don’t happen. By following these guidelines everyone can make a safer work environment.
It is estimated that seven workers die each year as a result of car or mobile plant accidents, with 93 injured seriously. So although it might seem like extra work to follow CLOCS guidelines, they are very important for protecting people both on-site and off-site.
Some of the guidelines and goals set by CLOCS are; Fewer vehicle journeys, Fewer accidents involving construction vehicles, Reduced emissions and improved air quality, Reduced reputational risk due to incidents and accidents.
Both FORS and CLOCS work closely together to help keep compliance simple. If a company is already FORS Silver certified, they are also considered to be CLOCS compliant as well.
